In an ocean full options, how do you know which seaweed superfood is best for you?
If you’re cool enough to be reading a blog about fermented foods, then you’re probably cool enough to be in the-know about the trendiest foods right now – but who could’ve predicted seaweeds moment in the spotlight?
Probably the Fawcett’s from Pacific Harvest! Our seaweed savvy suppliers over at Pacific Harvest are something like pioneers of the New Zealand sea-vegetable industry, and they’re the reason our Super Superkraut is so, well… Super!
But even if you’re all clued up on your nori and your sushi, and even your umami – do you really know which seaweed’s you should be eating over others?
Not all seaweeds are created equal
While there are 900 seaweeds around the New Zealand coast (and none that would really kill you if you ate them), there are still some seaweeds that are better for you than others. Here at Living Goodness, we’re all about only including the best of the best, which is why Pacific Harvest’s Wakame is our seaweed of choice.
While nori is probably the most popular seaweed, being featured in an array of New Zealand’s favourite Japanese dishes, Louise Fawcett describes it as “basically the candy of the seaweed world”. Ouch!
Wakame on the other hand, could probably be described as the opposite.
Why Wakame?
The choice is easy when you see all the benefits lined up - which is just what we’re going to do for you!*
It’s a prebiotic food – great for gut health (which is what we’re all about!)
High in all your important vitamins (A, C, E, K, and all the B’s)
A great source of omega 3 fatty acids and minerals, making it the perfect option for vegans and vegetarians who don’t eat fish
Low calorie with a naturally salty taste, equipped with that famous umami flavour
Low in fat and high in good proteins
A great source of iodine which is imperative for brain health
Environmentally friendly – our eco-system is begging for us to eat as much of this invasive plant as possible (wakame can grow up to 5cm a day!)
We’ve hardly even scratched the surface of the seaweedy goodness that comes from eating wakame, but there isn’t enough blog space in the world to cover it all.
Our Super Superkraut is really as super as it sounds because we’ve combined the classic good-gut sauerkraut with the greatest vegetable in the ocean, to bring you a tasty addition to your favourite meals.
Not sure how best to enjoy this super superfood solution? We recommend pairing it with your favourite Japanese takeaways, or with a delicious fishy dish to get that real ocean taste.
